Plaza West Health Center, at Freedom Plaza - About Us
I loved growing up in the hills of West Virginia and I am an
alumna of West Virginia Wesleyan College.
I have had the opportunity to have homes in WV, NY, NC, AZ,
TN and FL. I love to camp (tent camp!), hike, fish, white
water raft, walk on the beach with my rat terrier, crochet,
quilt, am learning to play the guitar, have a special
passion for my family and my church; the list is endless!
I take to heart the stated purpose of the Social Service Designee in a
nursing home to help residents deal with their feelings about their illness,
altered relationships with their families and friends, and new relationships
Born: Louisville, Ky. 1951. Moved to Tampa to be with grandparents
as "Ships Agent" 1968-1988. Started a second life
working in Health Care in 1988 as Social Director at
Canterbury Towers an ALF/SNF in Tampa, it took only a few
months to realize I had wasted 20 years working in a job I
thought I enjoyed until I came to understand the difference
I could make in a senior''s life. Caring for and entertaining
the senior population seemed to come natural as I was raised
in a warm and loving home that included my grandparents, who
taught me the love and respect the elderly so richly
deserve. I have carried and applied these lessons all my
life. My grandfather said to be thoughtful and considerate
in everything you do in life and the rewards in the heart
far surpass all material gains, and this I found to be true.
Hello! My name is Felicia Altenburg. Three years ago, I started working for ARC as a housekeeper at Plaza West and worked my way up to manager. This position includes managing a 24 hour centralized laundry for the campus and housekeeping services for Hospice House. I was raised in the Tampa Bay area, have two lovely daughters and one granddaughter. My grandmother lived with me for several years and my father still resides with me. This is why I get great satisfaction and pleasure in knowing the services I provide for retired and elderly residents make a difference in their later years.
I have been with Freedom Plaza Retirement Community for over 5 years and in Senior Living Services for over 11 years. I graduated with a BS degree in hotel/restaurant management from Brigham Young University in Hawaii. Myself and my courteous staff of over a hundred associates takes great pride in providing quality meals and gracious services to our residents. Please feel free to contact me.
